If You’re
Big and Tall, You Don’t Have to Sit on the Sidelines This Season
It used to be that if you fit
into the category of ‘big and tall mens’ that you couldn’t also be fashion
forward. However, times have changed and although you might not to wear the
oranges and yellows that are so popular with designers this season, you can
take advantage of a lot of other trends.
This has to do with the fact that a lot of mens fashions this season are
deconstructed and sized to be more comfortable and casual, as opposed to slim
fitting. So while there are still a lot of slim fitting men’s and brightly
colored clothing on the runway this season, there are also a lot of designs
that will also look good on big and tall men’s physiques. Here are some current
trends and how they can work for you if you have a larger build.
Minimalism
The minimalist look coming off
the runways of Europe has more to do with a futuristic look of clean lines and
little or no shaping, more than anything else. For big and tall mens wear, this
means that clothing will be less tailored and made of more lightweight fabrics,
something that every big and tall guy can take advantage of. Shades are also in
blacks and greys with minimal prints. Again, any of these futuristic looks will
be workable for guys with a larger carriage.
Lost Youth
Mens clothes are younger looking
this season, perhaps reminiscent of high school and college days. This is about
rumpled looks, playful prints and graphics along with comfortable cuts. All of
this goes well on a larger physique, especially for casual day at the office or
weekends goofing off. More and more it seems that the lines between what is
fashionable for regular sized guys, and what looks good if you are big and tall,
are becoming blurred.
Urban Sports
Luxe
The dressing down of formal wear
is nothing new, men have been wearing suit jackets with jeans since the
eighties, but it is becoming an increasingly integral part of most menswear
collections. This is a great boon to the big and tall mens wear industry. This
is because it is always a benefit for large guys to be able to combine
different elements of clothing that are flattering to their physique and to
come up with a look that is trendy as well. So a slouchy jacket that hides the
flaws of the body, combined with dress pants that have a relaxed fit, looks
trendy as well as pleasing to the eye.
Camouflage
Camouflage prints have been on
everything for the past few seasons and it looks like they are here to stay
permanently. The prints this season are getting more creative, as well as more
abstract, and are more flattering for big and tall mens wear. The jackets and
pants made of camouflage prints are also slouchy and loose fitting, so they are
still flattering for bigger guys. The patterns are dull and nondescript as
well, so if you think camouflage will make you look bigger because it is a
print, this season’s camouflage won’t.
Other Themes
There are other themes as well,
but they will only be briefly mentioned here because they are not for the big
at heart or the big in the waist. This includes mesh fabrics, florals,
metallics, cowboy looks, and the like. These looks are not flattering on many
males and perhaps shown on the runway as some sort of diversion from the
mundaneness of camouflage. At any rate, with all of the other looks for this
season on your side, you should have no trouble finding big and tall mens wear
this season that is trendy and also flattering to your physique.
